El Libre Playa is a single, sun-filled top-floor apartment overlooking Puerto Rico bay — personally hosted by Roberto, not run by a chain.
The Host
A holiday shouldn't feel like a chore — it should be a pleasure. When I opened El Libre Playa in Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria, in 2023, I knew that visitors from Europe and beyond were looking for accommodation that made them feel at home. If you're looking for a place that's impeccably prepared and thought through down to the last detail, you've come to the right place.
I've been in Gran Canaria for five years. I felt at home here almost immediately, and decided to buy the flat that would become El Libre Playa and renovate it completely, so I could offer guests that same feeling. I've travelled widely myself, in many different countries, so I know exactly what a good host should get right. Hospitality is at the centre of your stay with me — I always aim to give you a personal service, and I'm happy to share tips and recommendations that make your holiday unforgettable.
I warmly invite you to get to know my holiday flat, and I look forward to welcoming you as my guest soon. If you have any questions or would like to check availability, please don't hesitate to contact me at any time. Your comfort matters to me.
"Arrive hungry — I'll point you to the grilled octopus two streets down before you've even unpacked."
— RobertoThe Apartment
There is only ever one booking, one set of keys, and one apartment to get right — so I've focused on getting it right.

A quiet bedroom with a comfortable double bed and blackout blinds.
Hob, fridge-freezer, kettle and everything needed to cook a proper meal in.
Sun from around 10am until sunset, with an awning for shade whenever you want it.
Reliable enough for video calls, streaming and keeping in touch back home.
Genuinely useful for longer stays — no need to pack for every day.
A small, quiet pool with loungers that are almost always free, and a pleasant view of its own.

Location
Puerto Rico is a sheltered, south-facing bay on Gran Canaria's coast — calm water, a working marina, and enough restaurants and shops within a short walk that you rarely need a car.
A quiet block of 12 holiday apartments across three floors. Mine is the top floor — four flights of stairs, no lift — with the best view in the building as the reward.
One staircase down from the apartment. It's a modest pool, but since the building is rarely full, there's almost always space — and the view from the poolside is lovely too.
Public parking sits directly in front of the building — the yellow-striped bays are for deliveries by day but are tolerated for guests overnight. For the airport, bus 91 runs from Puerto Rico roughly every hour (timetable at guaguasglobal.com), or I can arrange a direct pick-up and drop-off for €140 return.
Explore Gran Canaria

Book directly with operators at the marina, just along the beach. Sightings aren't guaranteed, but they're common.

Operators are based at the far end of Puerto Rico beach, right of the boat ramp.

A breathtaking way to see the bay from above — booked at the same end of the beach.

Several operators run professional fishing trips from the marina — enquire locally for the day's availability.

Two well-regarded 18-hole courses are close by, at Meloneras and Anfi Tauro.

A trail leads from Puerto Rico to Arguineguín — with a bus back if you'd rather not walk both ways. The 7km dune trail at Maspalomas is well worth the trip too.

Flat, fast coastal roads or long mountain climbs to volcanic peaks and ravines — good cycling in any direction you point.

The Mogán Mall, right here in Puerto Rico, has around 70 stores. Bigger centres — Atlántico Center, Las Arenas, Alisios — are a short drive away in Vecindario and Las Palmas.
Guest Reviews
"This exceeded all expectations. Roberto greeted us and showed us around, with a good red wine already waiting on the table. The apartment has everything you need for a great holiday, with a fantastic view and sun from around 10am until sunset. The best apartment we've stayed in on the island — we'll definitely book again."
"A very nice, bright and fresh top-floor apartment with balcony, awning and beach view — beautiful sunsets. Well equipped, including a washing machine. A peaceful area, with a lovely little pool where sunbeds are always free. Near the beach and the shopping centre. Roberto is a wonderful, accommodating host who can even arrange airport pick-up and drop-off on request. Highly recommend — I'll be back."
"Warm hospitality from a very nice host. The apartment is well located, just a few minutes' walk from the centre. Fantastic views, and the sun conditions are impeccable — it shines most of the day until sunset."
FAQ
Send me your dates through the contact form, WhatsApp or email below. I reply personally, usually within a day, with availability and a direct-booking price.
A small dog up to 7kg is welcome, for €30 per day. Cats can't be accommodated, I'm afraid.
I hand the apartment over clean and in perfect condition, and carry out a thorough clean after every stay — an €80 cleaning fee is payable in advance. A €100 security deposit is also collected in cash at check-in, refunded in full at check-out if the apartment is returned undamaged; €30 of it is retained if rubbish or dirty dishes are left behind. Smoking isn't permitted indoors (a €50 charge applies if it happens) but is perfectly fine out on the terrace.
Full refund if you cancel 31 days or more before check-in; 70% from 30 days; 50% from 21 days; after that the full amount is due, since the apartment is unlikely to be rebooked in time. Changing your dates instead of cancelling is free at any time, subject to availability.
Yes — I can pick you up and drop you back at the airport myself, for €140 return. Otherwise, bus 91 runs from Puerto Rico to the airport almost every hour; you'll find the timetable at guaguasglobal.com.
There's no private space, but public parking sits directly in front of the building. The yellow-striped bays are reserved for deliveries and tradespeople by day, but parking there overnight is generally tolerated.
No — it sits around 17–18°C in winter, depending on the weather, and is most enjoyable for swimming from June to October.
Check-in is from 4:00pm and check-out by 11:00am. If your flight times don't line up, just ask — I'm often able to flex this.
